You are looking at a very special 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Y74 Pace Car Convertible. This is a true survivor that received a light refresh approximately 12 years ago. The interior remains original, while the matching-numbers 455 engine was refreshed and resealed. The transmission was also rebuilt and resealed at that time.
The body was repainted in its original factory color with black stripes, and the pace car decals were removed during repaint. The convertible top was replaced, and both the front and rear bumpers were upgraded to new chrome units.
The second owner purchased the car in 1972 with very low mileage. He owned a brake and alignment shop in Rockwall, Texas and used the car as his weekend cruiser. It was always stored indoors and well maintained. I purchased the car from his family about a year ago. Over the past 10 years, it was started and driven sparingly.
Recent service includes:
Four new BFGoodrich radial tires
Oil and lube service
Radiator flush
Rear differential service
A/C service with new compressor — blows cold
Full tune-up
The car runs extremely well. With 500 ft-lbs of torque, it pulls strong and drives great.
The body is very solid and rust-free. The rear differential and frame mounts show only surface rust with no rot. The floors are exceptional, easily among the best you'll find on a 55-year-old car.
Only 278 Y74 Pace Car Convertibles were built in 1970. This is truly a gentleman's muscle car — enjoy the sound of a big-block Olds or cruise comfortably with the A/C on, thanks to the heavy-duty cooling system.
