You are looking at a very solid 1969 Jeep Gladiator J-2000 thriftside pickup. It recently under went a body on frame restoration, new paint by Perry Newton in Kennadale Texas and updated interior trim. This was a very solid west Texas farm truck, the original owner bought it new with the 230CI tornado overhead cam engine. He had alot of problems with the motor and the local Kaiser dealer would not help him out. He changed the "J"on the tailgate to an "H" so it read "Heep" he also had a keychain made that said Heep. he drove it around town for years. Moving forward a jeep collector bought it from an estate and somewhere during that time the motor was replaced with a Jeep V-8, he was told it was a 307 so Im figuring it as a .20 over 304. It has a holley 4bbl and an edlebrock aluminum intake. It sounds like it has a mild street cam or RV cam the way it idles. It still has the stock suspension, and manual drum brakes so it does drive like a 69 J-2000 Jeep truck. The added power steering makes it easier to drive. The granny 4 speed with compound low makes it not that great for highway travel. The exhaust is a dual flowmaster system so it sounds real good. The paint is excellent driver quality and I would call it show quality on a vintage jeep, back in the day they used single stage paint. The factory color was a light green and when Perry painted it it was the original paint with excellent metal underneath.
The tires are older mud grips, good for around town buy not good for a highway trip in hot weather. The motor runs strong, transmission shifts smooth and the clutch has zero chatter. This body style is iconoc in the vintage Jeep world and thrift side bed puts it over the top. This would be a great candidate to upgrade the drive train to an LS motor, A/C, automatic or just put power disc brakes on it and enjoy it.
